Answer: It may be that the terminal is not yet configured for a touchscreen. To configure any XP 350 series, XP 400 series, NC 200 series, NC 400, or NC 900 series system for a touchscreen, follow these steps:
1. Make a note of which serial port your touchscreen is connected to (Serial Port 0 or Serial Port 1). You will need this in step 7.
2. Make a note of which type of touchscreen you have installed on your system (resistive, capacitive, or surface acoustic wave) you will need this information also in step 7.
3. Power on or boot the terminal.
4. Press [Shift]-[Pause] or [Shift]-[Setup] on a 101 key keyboard (or [F3] on other keyboards).
5. Using the mouse, click on the "Setup" option.
6. Click on "Configuration Summaries" and drag the mouse down to the "Input Extensions" option, then release the mouse button.
7. Click on "Device on Serial Port x" (x is the number of the serial port from step one) and drag down to one of the following (depending on your touch screen type): ptrTridentRes for resistive, ptrTridentSAW2 for surface acoustic wave, or ptrTridentCap for capacitive.
8. Click on "Touch Screen" as core pointer device. Do not disable the mouse!
9. Calibrate the touchscreen:
a. Click on "Start Calibration".
b. Touch the "target" that appears at the lower left corner of the picture, looking at the monitor from the position of a typical user. This "target" may not necessarily appear in the farthest lower left of the screen.
c. Touch the "target" that appears at the upper right corner of the picture, looking at the monitor from the position of a typical user. Again, this "target" may not necessarily appear in the farthest upper right of the screen.
10. Touch the screen a few times in different places to confirm that the calibration seems to be correct. If it is not, repeat step 9 until calibration seems to be correct. Otherwise, return to the main menu by clicking on that button, then click on "Save Settings". When the "Save Settings" button appears to have released from the depressed position, you may exit the setup screen.
